Frequently Asked Questions
Some chemical peels can be performed without skin prep, while stronger options require proper preparation before treatment. At Lashes & Lipstick, peels such as Mandeliclear, Melanostop, Jessner Pro, Vitamin A Accelerator, require preparation before booking. If you are unsure which peel you need, contact the clinic before scheduling your chemical peel appointment.
Downtime depends on the type and strength of the peel. Some peels may cause little to no visible peeling, while stronger options can lead to mild, moderate, or more noticeable flaking and peeling over the following days. Your provider will explain what to expect based on the peel selected for your skin and your treatment goals.
Chemical peels may not be suitable if you are pregnant or nursing, have open wounds, an active infection, skin cancer history that has not been cleared, an aspirin allergy, recent Accutane use, unrecovered cosmetic surgery, certain skin conditions such as psoriasis, or skin that is not properly prepared for the peel. Always review contraindications with the clinic before booking.
A facial mainly cleanses, hydrates, and maintains the skin, while microdermabrasion physically buffs away the surface layer. A chemical peel works differently by using professional-grade exfoliating solutions to loosen the bonds between dead skin cells, encouraging fresher, healthier skin to surface. Because peels can be tailored in strength, they often target deeper concerns such as uneven tone, texture, and pigmentation more directly than a standard facial. At Lashes & Lipstick, your provider will recommend whether a facial, microdermabrasion, or a chemical peel best suits your skin goals.
Chemical peels are usually done in a series rather than as a one-time treatment, with sessions commonly spaced about 4 weeks apart depending on the peel strength and how your skin responds. Lighter, refreshing peels may be repeated more often, while stronger resurfacing peels need more recovery time in between. Your provider at Lashes & Lipstick will map out a schedule based on your concern and how well your skin tolerates each treatment. You can book a consultation to plan your peel.
After a chemical peel it is important to protect and support the healing skin. This usually means avoiding sun exposure, wearing SPF daily, skipping harsh scrubs, retinoids, and strong actives for several days, and never picking or pulling at flaking skin. Keeping the skin gently hydrated helps you get the best result and lowers the risk of irritation or unwanted pigmentation. Your provider will give you specific aftercare instructions based on the peel you receive. You can also explore skincare to support your results in our shop.
Yes, certain chemical peels can help acne-prone skin by clearing congestion, reducing excess oil, and encouraging cell turnover, which may also soften post-acne marks over time. The right peel depends on whether your skin is actively breaking out, sensitive, or prone to pigmentation. At Lashes & Lipstick, peels are chosen as part of a customized plan, and a consultation helps confirm the safest option for breakout-prone skin.
Chemical peels are often part of a larger skincare plan and may be paired with treatments such as facials or microneedling. Combining exfoliating treatments too closely can over-stress the skin, so timing matters. Your provider at Lashes & Lipstick will recommend the right order and spacing based on your concerns and goals.
Many clients notice brighter, smoother-looking skin within a few days of a peel, once any flaking has settled. Deeper concerns such as texture, tone, and pigmentation typically improve gradually over a series of treatments rather than after a single session. Consistency and good aftercare, including daily sun protection, help your results last longer. You can book a consultation to get started.
Many chemical peels can be performed on deeper skin tones, but the peel type and strength must be chosen carefully, since more aggressive peels can carry a higher risk of pigmentation changes in richer skin. At Lashes & Lipstick, peels are customized to your skin type and concern, and gentler or preparatory options may be recommended first. A consultation is the safest way to choose the right peel for your skin tone.
