Why Laser Hair Removal Is Not Working: 5 Hidden Reasons for Poor Results
Laser hair removal may not work effectively if treatments are inconsistent or improperly performed.
It’s Not a Real Laser (The IPL Trap)
Many spas offer ‘Laser Hair Removal’ but are actually using IPL (Intense Pulsed Light). While IPL is great for facials, it lacks the concentrated power to permanently destroy the hair follicle. At Lashes & Lipstick, we use the Soprano Ice Platinum Diode Laser, which utilizes three wavelengths to target the hair root directly, ensuring results where IPL fails.
| The Problem | The Likely Reason | The Lashes & Lipstick Solution |
| Patchy Regrowth | Missed spots during treatment. | Our In-Motion™ technique ensures 100% coverage. |
| No Shedding | Pulse energy was too low. | We use clinical-grade power settings for every skin type. |
| Hair is Too Light | Laser can’t ‘see’ the pigment. | We’ll be honest: if you have red/grey hair, we’ll recommend waxing. |
| Hormonal Growth | PCOS or high testosterone levels. | We create a Long-Term Maintenance Plan to manage new growth. |
The Biological Side: Timing and Hair Growth Cycles
Beyond the technology used, the timing of your appointments plays a massive role is your laser hair removal is not working. Laser energy can only destroy hair follicles that are in the anagen (active growth) phase. At any given time, only about 15-20% of your hair is in this stage. If you wait too long between sessions—or go too frequently—you may be missing the window where the follicle is actually attached to the bulb, meaning the laser can’t reach the target.
Furthermore, the “settings” on the machine matter. Many clinics use a “one-size-fits-all” approach to power levels to avoid the risk of burns. However, with our Soprano Ice Platinum technology, we use a specialized “In-Motion” technique. This allows us to safely build up the heat to the clinical threshold required to permanently disable the follicle, rather than just “stunning” it. If your hair is growing back just as thick as before, it’s likely that your previous treatments weren’t reaching the necessary temperature to cause permanent thermal damage.
