Confessions of an Aesthetician: Your Most Awkward Brazilian wax Questions, Answered

Let’s get your Brazilian wax questions answered! I’ve waxed every body part imaginable on people from all walks of life. I’ve heard it all, built rapport, and even been trusted with some pretty big secrets. If you’ve been seeing me for a while, we’ve probably become like friends or even family. But no matter how close we are, I still get some funny and sometimes very personal questions about my job.

I decided to put together a new post to answer the some of the Brazilian wax questions that are probably on your mind, too! Let’s get your Brazilian wax questions answered ladies!

Do we all look the same down there?

Absolutely not! While every vagina functions the same way, we’re all built differently. Some people have thinner labia, others have longer vulvas or a wider pubic bone. Just like the rest of our bodies, vaginas come in all shapes and sizes, and that’s the beautiful diversity of the human body.

Am I the only one who feels awkward? Does this feel awkward for you?

You are not the only one, and it’s definitely not awkward for me. We all have our insecurities, but when I’m waxing you, I’m not focused on the body part itself. My only goal is to remove the hair as efficiently and painlessly as possible.

In my years of experience, I’ve seen thousands of women. Everyone has cellulite, ingrown hairs, and natural odours. There is truly nothing you should feel ashamed of, and nothing I haven’t seen before! I always aim to help make everyone feel as comfortable as possible and have all of your Brazilian wax questions answered before the appointment begins.

Are Men Crybabies?

Honestly? A little, yes. Men tend to have a different pain tolerance than women. We’re built to handle pain, think about childbirth, for example. So for many of us, a wax is completely manageable. Men, on the other hand, can be a little less tough when it comes to hair removal.

Have you ever been farted on?

Yes. And it’s really not a big deal. If you accidentally let one go, don’t worry about it – you are definitely not the only one.

Can I wax while on my period?

Yes! Just make sure to use a clean tampon or a menstrual cup. We can’t perform a wax if you are free-bleeding or wearing a pad, as the wax won’t adhere to the hair properly.

What about a yeast infection or an STI breakout?

Please reschedule your appointment until the infection or breakout is completely gone. We wouldn’t want to risk further irritation or infection.

Does anything gross you out?

Rarely. While we always appreciate a shower before you come in, every client is offered a baby wipe to freshen up! So whether you’ve come straight from work or a spin class, you can always take a moment to feel clean and comfortable.

Can you keep a secret?

I spend a very personal and intimate time with you. We chat, we get to know each other, and as you get more comfortable, you start “spilling the beans” about your life. I consider our conversations like doctor-patient confidentiality. Nothing you tell me leaves the wax room – I promise. This is a safe, judgment-free zone!

What’s your favourite service to perform?

This might sound strange, but Brazilians have always been my favourite. They’re so quick and easy to wax, usually taking ten minutes or less. Hair growth is generally consistent from person to person, making it an almost effortless process. I could probably do it in my sleep!

My last aesthetician double-dipped the stick. Why do you only use one stick per application?

First off, that’s just gross. Second, we never double-dip. Not only is it unsanitary, but it’s also a serious violation of Health Canada guidelines.

If you ever see an aesthetician double-dipping, run. The wax is a hot pool of liquid that can be a breeding ground for bacteria and infection. The same wax they use on your private parts could then be used on someone else’s upper lip. I get sick just thinking about it.

What are other women doing? Are they taking it all off or leaving some hair?

This is a totally personal choice! Most women choose to take it all off because it’s easier to maintain, but you can absolutely choose to leave some hair behind. It’s all about what makes you feel the most comfortable. Check out these types of Brazilian waxes!

What’s the worst wax you’ve ever had?

Well, now that I wax my own Brazilian, it’s easy-peasy with no pain. But my very first one was the worst experience ever. The aesthetician didn’t hold my skin taut or tell me to do it myself. She just slapped the wax on and ripped it off in two strips. I was black and blue and had a few layers of skin ripped off. That experience is actually what made me realize there had to be a better way – and there was. Me!

Oh, and let’s not forget the time someone had me get on all fours, like doggy-style, to wax between my cheeks. Talk about feeling vulnerable. At least take me to dinner first!

That’s it for now! I hope I got all of your brazilian wax questions answered!
