Now that we know what type of skin we have, let’s learn how to care for our skin!

Caring for your NORMAL skin

  • Always remove your make-up. It’s unhygenic to go to bed with your make-up still on. Applying make-up ontop of make-up is kind of gross, too!
  • Cleanse your skin on a daily basis.
  • Massage the wash on your face to work up a lather. Massaging your face will lead to a more rosy complexion.
  • Rinse your face with clean water.
  • Pat your face dry on a clean towel. Rubbing can cause wrinkling.
  • After washing, tone your face.
  • After toning, be sure to moisturize! Dot the moisturizer on your face with your (CLEAN!) fingers, massage it into your face (GENTLY!)

Caring for your OILY skin

  • This skin-type is most prone to acne. Be gentle and don’t treat your skin too harsh.
  • Be sure to use a cleanser that is gentle and will cleanse oils from your skin and unclog your pores but it shouldn’t dry out your skin, either.
  • Water is key. It will help your skin remain soft.
  • Be sure to remove any and all make-up.
  • For the eyes, use a non-oily eye make-up remover. Use a cotton ball to remove the make-up. Hold the cotton ball over your (CLOSED) eyes for a few seconds, so that it’s able to dissolve the make-up.
  • To wash your face, use tepid water and a foaming facial wash. Don’t use a bar of soap, it will strip away your skin’s natural moisture. Rinse with warm water.
  • Tone your face, as it refreshes and cools your skin.
  • Your oily skin still needs moisturizer! Choose a light moisturizer that is made of a watery fluid.
  • Once you massage the moisturizer into your face, let the skin absorb it for a few moments, then remove the excess moisturizer with a tissue by dabbing it on your face.
  • To improve your skin, you need to control excess oil and improve the skin moisture levels.

Caring for your DRY skin

  • You need to retain and restore the moisture in your skin.
  • Remove make-up with an oil-based make-up remover. Do not use it excessively, it will irritate your skin.
  • To wash your face, use a creamy (or milky) cleanser. Leave it on for a few moments then remove it with a cotton pad, using upward motions. Splash some water on your face to remove any excess cleanser.
  • If your skin is extremely dry, avoid using a toner. Otherwise, choose a toner that is alcohol-free.
  • Use a thick, creamy moisturizer and massage it in with your fingers. Give your skin time to absorb the moisturizer before applying make-up.

Caring for your COMBINATION skin

  • Caring for this type of skin is a little tricky. The oily parts need to be treated the same as oily skin and the dry parts need to be treated like dry skin.
  • To know which parts are oily and which are dry, wash your face with a foaming cleanser. Do not apply any toner or moisturizer for about half-hour. Press a tissue to your face, the pieces that come back looking greasy are the oily skin areas.
  • Use an oil-based make-up remover.
  • For the morning, use a lathering cleanser. Focus on the oily parts of your skin. Rinse with cool water.
  • In the evening, choose a creamy cleanser. This time, focus on the dry areas of your skin. Massage it in well and remove it with cotton pads. You don’t need to rinse.
  • To tone on your oily skin, use a stronger toner. To tone on your dry skin, use an alcohol free toner.
  • In the day, use a light moisturizer and at night, use a rich night cream. Focus on the dry areas and remove any excess moisturizer on the oily areas.

Caring for your SENSITIVE skin

  • Use extra gentle skin care products, like hypoallergenic products because they are not made with any common irritants.
  • Avoid scented products.
  • Moisturize your skin well because dryness can make your skin even more uncomfortable.
  • Choose a make-up remover made for sensitive skin.
  • Avoid soaps and facial washes, these will increase your skins sensitivity. You’ll need a hypoallergenic, light cleansing lotion.
  • Avoid toners completely. To freshen up your skin, use warm water and lightly, pat dry your face. Rubbing will cause irritation.
  • Moisturizing is key. This will form a protective barrier against irritants.
