What is Microneedling?
Microneedling is a cosmetic treatment that can reduce the appearance of acne scarring, Melasma, fine lines, enlarged pores, hyperpigmentation, and overall improve skin’s tone and texture. SkinPen improves fine lines, wrinkles, acne, and surgical scars. Microneedling is a relatively new treatment to keep us looking youthful.
SkinPen comfortably and precisely creates thousands of microchannels in the surface of the skin. The skin responds by naturally increasing collagen in the treated area. The responses happen quickly for noticeable results and will continue to improve for weeks and months to come, after a series is complete. Post microneedling, the skin goes through a 3 step healing process that results in a thicker epidermis while tightening and firming the skin.
The 3 Step Healing Process
Inflammatory
This stage can last up to one week and is the most important stage. The inflammatory stage removes dead, damaged cells and replaces them with new, healthy cells. There’s an increase of blood flow and creates new tissue. Be sure not to use an anti-inflammatory medication during this stage.
Proliferation
In this stage, the wounds rebuild themselves. with new granulation cells, as well as collagen, and elastin. A new network of blood vessels develop. This stage can last up to 3 weeks.
Remodelling
This stage replaces the wound with new tissue and blood vessels. The initial collagen is then replaced with a stronger, more permanent collagen which gives that tightening effect to the skin. You’ll notice an increase of volume and elasticity in the skin
What To Expect During a Microneedling Treatment
Your skin will be cleansed and disinfected. A topical numbing agent will be applied for approximately 15min before the Microneedling begins.
Once you’re numb, a sterile Hyaluronic Acid will be applied to the area(s) we are treating and a SkinPen will glide over your skin, at different depths, creating micro-channels in the skin. This is what we call a controlled, micro injury and will begin the healing process. There is minimal discomfort.
You will be placed under Celluma LED Light Therapy for 15 – 20mins to promote healing. Then, we will apply soothing aftercare, which you will continue to use over the next 24-72hrs.
The entire SkinPen treatment is roughly 60mins, from start to finish.
You may experience redness and a mild sunburn type of effect over the next 24-48hrs but with proper aftercare, it will subside.
Please note that all products and instruments used during your treatment are disposable, sterile, and Health Canada approved.
The Ideal Microneedling Candidate
Microneedling is an amazing treatment for those suffering with acne scarring, deep wrinkles and fine lines, hyperpigmentation and Melasma, sagging skin, stretch marks, and an overall dissatisfaction with your skin.
Microneedling Treatments cannot be preformed if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, have skin infections, diseases, or active acne, are undergoing chemotherapy or radiation, have uncontrollable diabetes or are on blood thinning medication, have an autoimmune disease, collagen vascular disease, or keloids, or are on medications like Accutane.
If you have an Aichmophobia, Microneedling is not an good idea for you.

How many treatments will I need?
Results vary. Some clients will only need one treatment a year to achieve optimal results while others may need 2 – 3 treatments, spaced 6 weeks apart. This depends on how significant your skincare concerns are. We can perform up to 6 treatments per year
How long is the treatment?
Including numbing, each treatment is about 60 minutes long
Is there any downtime?
Immediately after your treatment, the skin will be bright red and you may experience a slight warming to the skin, like a sunburn.
Most clients are fully healed within 2 – 4 days, others are completely healed within 24hrs.
When will I see results?
Visible differences will develop over a few weeks and can continue to improve for up to 6 months post-treatment
How long will results last?
The skin will continue to improve throughout the year but to keep up with our biological changes, additional yearly treatments will be required.
