Blog

Last month, thanks to Bee is the New Blog, I discovered Rent frock Repeat. It is a Canadian website where you can rent designer dresses for just a fraction of their retail value.
In order to view their collection, you must register. Don’t worry- they don’t spam your inbox. Their collection is incredible. You can rent from designers like Badgley Mischka to Robert Rodriguez to Ports 1961 all at an affordable price (mostly)! Rental prices start at $50 through $525. There is a $5 insurance fee, plus shipping/handling and applicable taxes. Dresses can be kept up to 4 days or 8 days (for an additional charge) and are couried to you 2 days before your event.

It wouldn’t be like me  if I didn’t try this service. So this past weekend, I had a Gala to attend thus, I found the perfect excuse to rent a dress. Browsing through the collection, I fell in love with this afforadable Badgley Mischka frock. It’s a very plain dress but the one shoulder sold me. Plus, who doesn’t love to accessorize without looking too busy?

The event was on Friday, my dress arrived on Thursday (my fault, I ordered too late).  With the dress, I received a Fit Kit and 2 information cards, letting me know how to care for my frock and when it was due, the other thanking me for renting.

In the Fit Kit, I received double-sided tape (which came in handy because the dress was a little too big), a deodorant remover pad, and sheets to remove lint, dust, etc.

As I mentioned, the dress was about a size too big. When I mentioned this in a tweet, the RfR team were quick to respond with a solution! They offered to rush over another frock in my size. I totally appreciated the offer but I decided to keep the dress & just work with it. I used the double-sided tape to stick the dress to me and make it fit just right (phew!)

The material was perfect for Toronto’s Fall weather. It wasn’t too heavy but it was definitely warm. The dress was the perfect shade of blue that (I thought) looked great with my golden tan (thank you, self-tanner!!). I accessorized with gold & pearls (costume jewellery) but I wish I had a pair of gold(ish) pumps to match instead, I made due with my beloved nude pumps.
I had trouble deciding what to do with my hair. Up, down, curled…there were just too many options. I usually wear my hair down but with this dress, I didn’t like how it looked. I tried putting my hair up but it made my face look too round. Sadly, I didn’t have enough time to curl my hair, either. Lo and behold, I went with a low, messy side bun. It was super easy to do and very low maintenance.

My make-up for the night as just as pretty as the dress!  The double-winged eyeliner was my favourite.  I love the way it extended my eyes. I decided on gold eyes to match my accessories, and a a light pink lip created using an OCC Lip Tar and NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk.

I have a work Christmas party in December that I cannot wait to rent the next dress for. I already have one in mind but you’ll have to wait until December to see it!

Ciao! xo
