Blog

I apologize to those who are visual learners. I wish I could create a video tutorial but I am sooo nervous behind the camera lol. I’m not a natural, at all!
I will try my best to explain how to apply your fake lashes.

I like to apply my fake eyelashes, first or at least, after I apply my foundation. At least if you mess up with the eyelashes, you don’t have to wash everything off and reapply- essentially, wasting make-up. I also like to apply them first because then I can work the rest of my eyes around it.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • fake lashes of your choice (Ardell makes great, inexpensive lashes. MAC also sells lashes)
  • an adhesive (DUO is my glue of choice)
  • tweezers or lash applicator (Sephora sells one)
  • scissors
  • eyelash curler

Step One: Measuring Your Fake Eyelashes
Start from the inside of your eye to the outside. Look at where your real eyelashes start on your inner eye and place the fake lashes down starting from the point. Your fake lashes should start and end where your real lashes do. Trim the excess fake eyelashes from the outer end, if they are too long.
Don’t throw away the excess lashes! You can use them alone on your outer eyelashes to accentuate and put the focus on your outer eye. I love doing that :)

Step Two: Applying the Adhesive
Apply a thin layer of the glue along the strip of the fake eyelashes. A good glue won’t be stringy nor should it burn the eyes, which is why I love Duo. It also dries clear.
Anyways, after applying the glue- wait a few seconds. Some adhesives recommend 30 seconds because the glue gets tackier as it dries.
Try not to get any glue on the fake lashes. It sucks trying to get it off!

Step Three: Applying the Fake Eyelashes to Your Eyelid
Start by looking down, use the tweezers (or your fingers) to place the fake lashes at the inner corner of your eye (where your real eyelashes begin) to the outer corner of your eye (where your real eyelashes end).
The fake eyelashes should be placed where you would normally apply eyeliner- on your upper eyelid, as close to the lash line as you can get without sticking them to your real eyelashes.
With the back end of the tweezers, press the lashes down onto your eye. If you use your fingers, the glue will get stuck to them and you’ll pull the fake eyelashes off. Wait a minute or so, then curl your fake & real eyelashes together.
If you have the lash applicator that Sephora sells, you would use it rather than the tweezers.

TIPS!

  • To make the fake eyelashes look more real, apply an eyeliner over top of the eyelash strip.
  • I recommend not using mascara on the fake lashes, they will last longer this way but you can apply mascara to your real lashes and curl them before you put on the fake ones.
  • I normally don’t wash my fake eyelashes because then they get hard and lose their natural shape. Just carefully peel off the glue.
  • Lash application takes a lot of practice. So if you don’t get it right the first time, keep trying!
  • Remember that the adhesive you use will make a huge impact on this experience.
