Blog

At the beginning of the month, I was contacted by the lovely PR Rep over at Clarins Canada to partake in a collaboration that showcases Clarins’ new Graphic Expression Collection, available Fall 2013.
Myself and 7 other bloggers across Canada were chosen to recreate 3 signature Clarins looks (nude, day, night) and create 1 of our own using the entire Graphic Expression collection.

The Nude look is very natural, like a second skin. It’s fresh, it’s soft, it’s a more enhanced you. Nude is work appropriate and easy for beginners. Here’s a step-by-step to recreating this look:

Step One- Face:
My skin needs a little coverage, even if it’s sheer, just to even out the skin tone. With a damp Beauty Blender, I stippled Clarins Extra-Comfort Foundation in #107 Beige onto my skin. It’s a medium-to-full coverage foundation but the dampness of the Beauty Blender sheered it out, giving me that second skin effect.

Step Two- Concealer:
Also with a damp Beauty Blender, to sheer out the concealer, I dabbed on Clarins Instant Concealer in #01 Yellow Beige under my eyes, in a triangular shape. Instantly, my eyes were brighter and illuminated, giving me that highlighted effect.

Step Three- Eyes/Brows:
Using the Harmony Eye Quartet Mineral Palette (pictured above) from Clarins’ Graphic Expression Fall 2013 collection, I applied the pale gold (lightest shade in the quad) to my entire lid, up to my brow bone to highlight. In the crease, I blended the bronze shade to add a little definition.
I’m wearing Lash Extensions (they need to be refilled, badly!) but I also used Clarins Be Long mascara in black to my top and bottom lashes.
I filled in my eyebrows with Makeup Forever Aquabrow in #25.

Step Four- Cheeks:
For an all-over glow, I used the Limited Edition Clarins Face & Blush Powder (pictured above). Using a powder brush, I lightly applied the blush along the top of my forehead, down my temples, down the center of my nose, and my chin. With a slightly heavier hand and an angled blush brush, I applied it from the apple of my cheeks to the tops of my cheekbones.

Step Five- Lips:
I wanted a sheer wash of color so I used Clarins Gloss Prodige Lip Gloss in Water Lily. It’s a pinkish coral with gorgeous shine.

Next is the Day look. It’s sophisticated but natural with enhanced eyes. Again, very work appropriate and easy torecreate. Check out my step-by-step below:

Step One- Face:
Again, to keep my skin natural, I used the Clarins Extra-Comfort Foundation in #107 Beige with a damp Beauty Blender

Step Two- Concealer:
Same as the Nude look but this time, I also concealed around my lips and blended it out with a damp Beauty Blender. This acted as a highlight around the lips, to bring them forward, since I’m wearing a bit of lipstick.

Step Three- Eyes/Brows:
Using the same Harmony quad, I applied the pale gold all over my lid, up to my brow bone to highlight. I use the darkest shade in the quad on my outer corner, blended into my crease. To soften the harsh lines, I layered the bronze shade into my crease, too. I smudged a little of the darkest shade onto my lower lash line, too.I lined my  upper lash line with the dual-ended Clarins “Plus” eyeliner (pictured above) in (color) and smudged it slightly upwards with the natural hair brush applicator on the other side.
I used the Clarins Be Long black mascara and filled in my brows with Makeup Forever Aquabrow in #25

Step Four- Cheeks:
This time, for the Day look, I only applied the Face &  Blush powder to the apple of my cheeks and along my cheek bones

Step Five- Lips:
To keep the color on my lips natural, but a little tinted, I applied one layer of Clarins Joli Rouge lipstick in #738 Royal Plum (pictures above). It looks really dark in the tube but is buildable in color, from sheer to opaque.

The Night look is intense in the eyes and a little bit advanced in technique. It’s glamorous, smoldering, sexy; perfect for a hot date or a night on the town with your best girlfriends. Below, I’ll show you how to recreate the Night look:

Step One- Face:
Apply Clarins Extra-Comfort Foundation in #107 Beige with a damp Beauty Blender

Step Two- Concealer:
To brighten up my eyes, I applied Clarins Instant Concealer in #01 Yellow Beige with my ring finger. I placed it in a triangular shape under my eyes and dabbed it out with my ring finger.
I also had a few red spots on my face so I concealed those, too.

Step Three- Eyes/Brows:
Pat the Instant Concealer on your lid as a primer then, apply Clarins “Plus” eyeliner in Smokey Plum to your top and bottom lash lines.
Pat the green shade from the Harmony quad to your entire lid then, smudge the darkest shade in the quad over the Smokey Plum liner you applied and blend into your outer V and slightly into the crease. Smoke out your bottom lash line with this same shade. To soften any harsh lines, blend the bronze shade into the crease, lightly, and highlight with the lightest shade from the quad.
Apply Be Long mascara and fill in your brows.

Step Four- Cheeks:
Apply Face & Blush powder to your cheek bones and blend up towards your temples.

Step Five- Lips:
I used a few layers of Clarins Joli Rouge lipstick in #738 Royal Plum to vamp up the look.

The look I created using the Graphic Expressions collection is quite simple and easy to achieve. I wore this look to an engagement party last weekend. Read below for a step-by-step.

Step One- Face:
I applied Clarins Extra-Comfort Foundation in #107 Beige with a damp Beauty Blender

Step Two- Concealer:
To brighten up my eyes, I applied Clarins Instant Concealer in #01 Yellow Beige with my ring finger. I placed it in a triangular shape under my eyes and dabbed it out with my ring finger.

Clarins 3 dot liner

Step Three- Eyes/Brows:
I dabbed on some Instant Concealer on my lid to act as a primer. Then, to my entire lid, I applied the bronze shade from the Harmony quad. On my outer corners, I used the darkest shade in the Harmony quad. I blended it up and out, and slightly into my crease. I used a makeup remover wipe to get that sharp shape/line.
The liner I used is pictured above. It’s 3 dot-liner, making it easy to connect the dots, for a flawless application.
I filled in my brows with Makeup Forever Aquabrow in #25

Step Four- Cheeks:
I slightly contoured my cheeks and forehead with a matte bronzer and then, applied Clarins Face & Blush powder along my cheeks bones.

Step Five- Lips
I didn’t want a completely vamped out look for that night so although I did use Clarins Joli Rouge lipstick in #738 Royal Plum, I only used one coat and layered it with Clarins Gloss Prodige Lip Gloss in Water Lily
